Negotiations Update 2012/08/17

The negotiating committees began expedited contract negotiations this week and met from Tuesday, August 14, through Friday, August 17. Our objective is to reach tentative agreements by November 15, 2012.

The committees were joined by representatives from the National Mediation Board, who provided briefings on the expedited negotiation process and facilitated the discussions.

The committees formed several sub-committees to discuss core work rule subject matters and identify issue lists, work-stream processes and schedules for continued discussions beginning first thing next week. The committees and sub-committees will meet at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 20.

The parties also made significant progress on mitigation efforts related to the cargo operations sourcing initiatives the company announced recently. The company is offering employees impacted by these changes a number of opportunities in other areas of the company. For example, United employees in Houston will now perform work previously done by a third-party supplier in Terminal A, and the company committed to provide employees opportunities for Cargo Reservations Specialist positions. The company also announced an early out program for these employees.
