Negotiations update 2014/10/24
October 24, 2014
On Wednesday, October 22, 2104, the National Mediation Board’s assigned Mediator, Gerry McGuckin, informed United and the Teamsters’ negotiating committee that he was suspending the scheduled mediated bargaining sessions indefinitely.
The Mediator stated that the reason for this decision was the Union Negotiating Committee’s failure to respond constructively to the Company’s proposals and efforts to reach a joint agreement.
Subsequently, the Mediator met separately with the Union’s Negotiating Committee to discuss steps which would evidence a willingness to engage in future productive discussions. Following internal meetings between the Union Negotiating Committee and the Mediator, the Company was advised that the Mediator requested that the Negotiating Committee prepare a comprehensive counter proposal and to forward it to the Mediator. Once such proposal is forwarded he will assess the approach and determine next steps.
The company remains committed to reaching an agreement and will await further guidance from the National Mediation Board.
